Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday assured that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in 21 states across the country before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, while announcing plans for a 30-day ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
While addressing the media on Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan in Mumbai, Shah said, “We introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in several states. I am confident that we will implement the UCC in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before 2029.”
As of now, the BJP-led NDA is in power in 19 states and two Union Territories, including Delhi, West Bengal, Assam, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam have already implemented the UCC, while Madhya Pradesh has set up a committee to draft the UCC.
He also announced that the entire NDA alliance and voluntary organisations are coming together to conduct the “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” nationwide from September 17 to October 17, to mark the completion of 25 years of Modi’s tenure as PM and Chief Minister of Gujarat.
“Very few leaders in this country have achieved the distinction of completing 25 years of continuous public service, having served both as a state Chief Minister and as the Prime Minister of the nation. This campaign will be carried out across the entire nation in every administrative unit, including all states and Union Territories,” he said.
Amit Shah On Illegal Infiltration, Student Protests
The Home Minister lauded the achievements of the BJP-led government at the Centre, such as the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the revocation of Article 370. He also said the repeal of Triple Talaq law provided justice to Muslim women, and Naxalism had been eradicated from vulnerable areas.
“Prior to 2014, our national politics was plagued by corruption, casteism, and dynastic politics. In the political era spanning 2014 to 2026, the nation has moved beyond these issues toward a politics of performance. For the first time in 12 years, the people have witnessed a foreign policy with a strong backbone. Whether it is our defence policy or our foreign policy, the guiding principle is India First,” he said.
Shah also spoke on illegal infiltration from border areas, promising to “identify every illegal infiltrator one by one and ensure they are deported from this country.”
When asked about the repercussions of the student protests in Jantar Mantar, Shah took a swipe at Congress, saying, “We are in a democracy. People hold different views on various issues, and it is essential that those views are expressed.”
“The Bharatiya Janata Party is in power, but we cannot govern by imposing an Emergency. That is the Congress culture, not ours. We believe in dialogue and discussion.”
