PM Modi takes elephant safari in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his first maiden visit to Assam’s Kaziranga National Park today took an elephant and a jeep safari. He is the first Prime Minister to visit the Unesco World Heritage Site since 1957, according to the Assam Chief Minister’s Office.

Modi first took the elephant safari, which was followed by a jeep safari inside the Mihimukh area, located within the National Park’s Central Kohora range.

He was accompanied by park director Sonali Ghosh and other senior forest officials.

Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Assam, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth Rs.18,000 crore.

The projects are being undertaken by both the Assam and Central governments.

On Friday, he first landed at the Tezpur airport, where he was welcomed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a post on X, Sarma said, ““#ModiParivarAssam is thrilled to welcome our beloved Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to the land of Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.”

From Tezpur, Modi boarded a chopper to Golaghat district, where Kaziranga is located, and spent the night at the Unesco World Heritage Site.

When he reached Kaziranga, the Chief Minister said in another post on X that “#ModiParivarAssam comes out in large numbers to welcome their very own family member to the World Heritage Site”.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi is slated to inaugurate the 125-ft high ‘Statue of Valour’ of Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat to celebrate the legendary Ahom general’s “valiant resistance against invaders”, the Chief Minister said.

He will then proceed to Meleng Meteli Pothar, also in Jorhat district, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of both central and state projects worth around Rs 18,000 crore.

Besides this, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public meeting at the same venue.
