Former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia fails to meet wife as she’s taken to hospital

NEW DELHI: Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia reached his residence from Tihar Jail on Saturday morning to meet his ailing wife but had to return disappointed. She had to be admitted to the emergency ward of LNJP Hospital following deterioration in her health before he could arrive.

A single-judge bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma of the Delhi high court had on Friday allowed Sisodia to meet his wife, Seema, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, at his residence from 10am to 5pm. It had, however, asked him not to interact with the media or use his cellphone. The same court at a special hearing on Saturday reserved its judgment on an interim bail plea moved by Sisodia in a money-laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. The judgment had been reserved on Friday but a special sitting was held on Saturday.

The bench called for a medical report of Sisodia’s wife from LNJP Hospital by Saturday evening. Sisodia has sought interim bail for a period of six weeks in view of the poor health of his wife.

Sisodia reached his house around 9.40am in a prison van. The house was allotted to current education minister Atishi after Sisodia resigned but his wife continues to live in the house due to her poor health, said an AAP functionary. He greeted mediapersons present at the gate but did not interact with them. Sources said he spoke to a relative who had earlier taken his wife to hospital. He entered the house amidst tight security. Around 4.40pm, he left for the prison in the van.
