Delhi gets 27 new electric vehicle charging stations

An electric vehicle charging station is an equipment that connects an electric vehicle to a source of electricity to recharge electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

By Ram Kinkar Singh: Among several initiatives to spruce up the capital city to host important G-20 meetings, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a project for charging electric vehicles through e-charging stations at various places in Delhi. This has been done to ensure that people using e-vehicles do not face problems on their way if the batteries of the vehicles get discharged.

At present, 97 e-vehicle charging stations are there in the national capital and now 27 more are made operational today. More stations are likely to be operational in the near future.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Bhardwaj said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of the Delhi e-charging system. The city has so much to offer in terms of E- mobility service providers offer charging services to EV users by connecting them with different CPO operated EV charging networks and E-MSP’s helps EV users.”

Further, Amarjeet Singh, CEO of BYPL said, "We have identified various sites particularly in those places where the movement of e-vehicles is more. BSES will make the best efforts in terms of providing best quality e-charging network to the people of Delhi."

An electric vehicle charging station is an equipment that connects an electric vehicle to a source of electricity to recharge electric cars, neighbourhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

Charging stations are also called electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and are provided in municipal parking locations by electric utility companies or at retail shopping centres by private companies. These stations provide special connectors that conform to the variety of electric charging connector standards.

MCD is committed to provide better civic services to the citizens. MCD will install more such electric vehicle charging stations to cater to the requirements of electric cars of the general public.
