Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday.
Mann fell ill after arriving at Chandigarh Airport upon his return from Delhi. He received an IV drip at the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh before being transferred to Apollo Hospital in the national capital, as per a report by Press Ki Taquat.
However, there have been no official updates on Mann’s condition from the hospital or his party.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been in Delhi since September 13, following the Supreme Court’s order granting bail to party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal was released on bail from Tihar Jail on Friday in connection with the excise policy case.
Mann also participated in the AAP workers’ meeting on Sunday, September 15, which was attended by senior party leaders, including Kejriwal.
On Sunday, Mann had described Kejriwal’s decision to resign as Delhi Chief Minister as “revolutionary,” crediting it to his “honesty and commitment to the people.”
Kejriwal on Sunday had announced his resignation after two days, calling for early elections in the national capital and stating he would not sit in the Chief Minister’s chair until the public gave him a “certificate of honesty.”
On Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party unanimously agreed to appoint senior party leader Atishi as the new Chief Minister of Delhi after Kejriwal proposed her name as his successor.
Oppn Raises Questions Over Mann’s Whereabouts
Following reports of Mann’s hospitalisation, opposition leaders raised questions about his whereabouts and alleged “misuse” of public funds for travel expenses.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia alleged that Mann had consumed alcohol illegally during a chartered flight from Delhi to Chandigarh, which caused him to fall on the tarmac upon disembarking. He called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Majithia claimed that Mann was flown back to Delhi in a chartered plane, which he described as a criminal misuse of state resources. Majithia demanded to know why Mann was not admitted to any hospital in Chandigarh or Punjab, arguing, “If the Chief Minister had been admitted to any state hospital, the truth would have come out that he had fallen down under the influence of liquor.”
Taking a jab at the Aam Aadmi Party’s claims regarding state-run healthcare, Punjab Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa wrote on X, “CM @BhagwantMann and former Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal have repeatedly claimed that government hospitals in Punjab and Delhi are at par with private ones. Yet when it comes to their own health, CM Mann opts for a private hospital in Delhi! The hypocrisy is staggering. It’s clear now that these so-called ‘champions of the common man’ have been misleading the public with their tall claims..”
“The reality is far from the picture they’ve painted. AAP’s promises are nothing more than political theatrics, and the people of Punjab and Delhi deserve to better. The cat is finally out of the bag—Kejriwal and Mann are compulsive liars who’ve failed to deliver,” Bajwa added.
