Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave it back to hecklers when they interrupted his speech with chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ at the inauguration of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University's East Delhi campus on Thursday.
“If the education system had improved by raising such slogans, it would have happened in the last 70 years,” said Kejriwal.
Sharing a clip of the incident on Twitter, the Aam Aadmi Party accused BJP workers of causing a ruckus at the event.
In the video, the Delhi CM is seen saying with a smile on his face, “With folded hands, I request the people from this party and the other party to listen to what I have to say for 5 minutes. If you don’t like it, you can continue sloganeering later.”
”I know you might not like my ideas and thoughts. You can make comments but this is not right. Everyone has the right to speak in this democracy,” he said on being interrupted again.
Delhi education minister Atishi was also greeted with jeering from certain sections of the audience. “This is why education is needed,” she quipped after taking the microphone. There was applause and noises of approbation at her response.
According to news agency PTI, there was sloganeering outside the campus as well between AAP and BJP workers while the inauguration ceremony was underway.
The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University’s east Delhi campus has become the latest flashpoint between the AAP-led city government and Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, with both sides claiming that they would inaugurate the newly built campus.
Both the parties have accused one another of trying to take undue credit for the new campus.
