A woman and her three children died after a tree fell on their house in Delhi’s Dwarka due to strong winds. A fifth person sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Four people were killed in Delhi after a tree fell on the roof of a house due to strong winds, leading it to collapse.
The authorities received a PCR call reporting the incident in Dwarka district. Upon arrival, police discovered that Jyoti, aged 26, and her three children had been trapped under the debris.
Rescue teams, with assistance from the fire department, recovered the victims and sent them to RTR Hospital in Jaffarpur Kalan, where doctors declared them dead.
A fifth individual, Ajay, also sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The city witnessed intense weather conditions early Friday morning, marked by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail. Nearly 8 cm of rain was recorded in just three hours, and temperatures plummeted from 28C at 5 AM to 19C by 5:30 AM — a sharp drop of 9 degrees in just 30 minutes.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest wind speed was recorded at Safdarjung at 80 kmph, while Palam reported 74 kmph. Other locations also experienced strong winds as a dense cloud mass swept over the city. The IMD had issued a red alert for Delhi, warning of severe thunderstorms and squally winds ranging between 70 and 80 kmph.
