UAE President to visit India as Trump peace plan for Gaza takes shape

The visit acquires added significance as it will start two days after the UAE welcomed President Trump’s announcement on the formation of the ‘Board of Peace’ for which India has also received an invite

Against the background of tension in West Asia and U.S. President Trump’s push for the ‘Board of Peace for Gaza’, India will host the President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday (January 19, 2026). The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Sunday (January 18) that during the visit, the President of the UAE will hold official talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to chart new frontiers for the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It will also enable exchange of views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, where India and the UAE share a high degree of convergence,” said the MEA in a press note.

The visit acquires added significance as it will start two days after the UAE welcomed President Trump’s announcement on the formation of the ‘Board of Peace’ for which India has also received an invite.

The UAE, which is among the top trading partners of India, has been in talks with India for the diplomatic calendar ahead. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had visited Abu Dhabi in December 2025 to attend the 16th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting and the 5th round of the India-UAE Strategic Dialogue, where the two sides discussed the plans for the year ahead in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, defence, security, development partnership, technology, health, culture, education and people-to-people ties.

Apart from the regional issues, the upcoming visit is expected to take up the UAE’s support for the AI Impact Summit to be held in India next month. India will host the next summit of the BRICS grouping and the summit’s agenda is expected to be discussed when Sheikh Zayed visits on Monday (January 19).
